June + July Gardening Sessions

We ate our first homegrown potatoes (with some chives and edible flowers). Maria showed us the Polish tradition of ear pinching to celebrate our new crop!

Tessa from Hackney Mosaic Project came to do a taster session for us. Users of St Paul’s Hall are invited to help making a mosaic in the Recreation Ground this summer.

  1. Hi, I’m organising a Stoke Newington foraging walk and jam making workshop in a couple of weeks time and I wanted to forward the invitation to your gardeners. Please let me know if you need more details, Many thanks, Clare

Would you like to learn about and find edible plants, fruits and berries, and transform them into jams, jellies and chutneys? Join us for a foraging walk through Stoke Newington, followed by a jam making workshop at the Made in Hackney community kitchen.

Led by artist Clare Qualmann, and sustainable food expert Charlotte Jarman, the walk will begin in Clissold Park, before moving through Stoke Newington, across Abney Park Cemetary, to the Made in Hackney kitchen where we will transform our elderberries, sloes, blackberries, medlars and apples (plus other findings) into jams, jellies and chutneys.

The walk and workshop take place on Saturday 8th August 2015, from 9.45am – 5pm. Places are free, but booking is essential as space is limited. The preserves that we make will feature in the East End Jamboree – a celebration of London jam, on Saturday 19th September 2015 at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, as part of the Harvest Stomp event. Participants can take home a jar of their jam on the day too.

Unfortunately it’s not possible to make this event wheelchair accessible.
